SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES UNDER THE
MALAYSIAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

INTRODUCTION

The COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) being one of the premier Institution of higher learning in Pakistan always aspires to further upgrade its academic and research excellence. In its pursuit to become a world class centre of research and learning, one of the foremost efforts involves the establishment of a sustainable pool of excellent academicians and researchers to serve the Institution and the nation. To proceed with this spirit, the CIIT in collaboration with the University of Malaya, Malaysia (UM) is offering various opportunities to its outstanding faculty/staff and students as under:

The applications by the CIIT faculty/staff must be directed to the respective offices identified below:

A:            BRIGHT SPARKS PROGRAMME, UM

Under the Bright Sparks Programme (BSP) of the UM), applications are invited from the bright, enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates (faculty /staff and students) from all the CIIT faculties/departments, for the award of graduate and postgraduate level scholarships.

The candidates having sixteen years and eighteen years education with CGPA 3.5 and above and IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 500 are eligible to apply for MS and PhD level scholarships respectively. The age of the candidate must not exceed 35 years at the time of application.

N.B. Similar programmes are offered by other Malaysian universities  having ‘Research University’ status. The prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to explore opportunities there, as well.

B.            MS/PHD SCHOLARSHIPS

Applications are invited from the outstanding CIIT faculty/staff interested for the award of fully/partially funded graduate and postgraduate level scholarships for the UM.

C:            HIGH IMPACT FACTOR RESEARCH (HIR) PROGRAM

The High Impact Factor (HIR) Program of the UM aims at generating new knowledge, more research capabilities and expertise. The high impact research grants are available for Engineeringfaculty to fund their projects for carrying out fundamental research which will result in publication of manuscripts in Tier 1 ISI/Web of Science journals. The candidates interested to undertake more ambitious research in their respective areas are invited to apply under the program.

D:            SHORT-TERM STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

Under the Short-Term Students Exchange programme, graduate and undergraduate level scholarships are available for the CIIT students from all faculties and departments for the duration of Six (6) months. The Programme intends to offer opportunities to the eligible candidates to advance their knowledge and provide international exposure and understanding by allowing them to visit UM for a specifiedduration of time.

The interested candidates may forward their applications to the Office of the Registrar, CIIT, Islamabad.

E.            VISITING / ADJUNT FACULTY

There is opportunity for the CIIT faculty to serve as visiting / adjunct faculty at the UM. Those interested in availing the opportunity, including sabbaticals, short term visitsmay express their intent.

F.                   CO-SUPERVISION

The offer of the co-supervision has been extended by the faculty of the UM for the CIIT faculty and students conducting their research across various academic disciplines. The candidates interested to avail the opportunity are invited to apply and communicate their areas of research.

For E & F, the applications can be forwarded to the respective Dean’s Office at CIIT.



The applications would be processed each Qtr. The deadline for receipt of applications at the respective offices would be 1st of April, July, September & January each year.

Note: Application forms can be obtained online from the web page: http://ww3.ciit.edu.pk/scholarships/downloads. The forms must be sent complete in all respects and duly endorsed by the Campus administration, to the respective offices as mentioned above who will liaise with the respective offices at the University of Malaya, Malaysia to process the applications. Certain programmes are open for external candidates/CIIT candidates applying directly. However, the CIIT faculty/staff and students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the institutional linkages between CIIT and UM for preferred consideration of their application.
